Happy Birthday, William Claude

W. C. FIELDS

No doubt you've made plans to celebrate this great day in due and ancient form. For as I'm sure you know, on this memorable day back in 1880, the great W.C. Fields, thinly disgused as William Claude Dukenfield, first trod upon life's stage while, no doubt, bitching about the location being too close to Philly (Darby PA).

To celibrate this great day, here are ten pearls of Fieldsian wisdom and a YouTube clip

I am an expert of electricity. My father occupied the chair of applied electricity at the state prison.

I am free of all prejudices. I hate every one equally.

I cook with wine, sometimes I even add it to the food.

I drink therefore I am.

A woman drove me to drink and I didn't even have the decency to thank her.

Ah, the patter of little feet around the house. There's nothing like having a midget for a butler.

I like children - fried.

Don't worry about your heart, it will last you as long as you live.

Drown in a cold vat of whiskey? Death, where is thy sting?

Hell, I never vote for anybody, I always vote against.
